Issues and Perspectives

The Texas Medical Association (TMA) supports Texas physicians by providing solutions to the challenges they encounter in caring for patients.

The TMA was first organized by 35 physicians in 1853 to serve the people of Texas in matters of medical care, prevention and cure of disease, and the improvement of public health. Today, with more than 41,000 physician and medical-student members, the TMA's vision is still to "improve the health of all Texans."

The Texas Medical Association Insurance Trust (TMAIT) was created in 1955 as an extension of TMA's mission. TMAIT helps TMA member physicians plan their finances and cost-effectively insure themselves, their dependents, and their employees.
