Cost Control Countdown: Only Two Weeks Left To Take Advantage of Special Options for Better Health Insurance

Written by TMA Insurance Trust Team | Nov 26, 2022 1:00:00 PM

Time is almost up. During Open Enrollment, practice owners and independent physicians have access to special options that could help them fight rising health insurance premium costs while securing better coverage. Two special waivers are helping many to qualify for group health insurance even if they don’t have employees and even if they only want group coverage for themselves and their family.

These waivers expire in two weeks, now is the time to see if you qualify. This may be the last year these options are available.

Think renewing is easier? Not so fast. TMA Insurance Trust understands the demands on your time. Your advisor will handle the work of reviewing your eligibility for these special options, comparing the plans you qualify for, and securing quotes. You’ll be presented with the plans that suit your needs and budget, you just have to choose the one you like best.

Control the Cost, Get Coverage You Want

As a result of the Affordable Care Act, two waivers are available to practice owners that can help them afford better coverage for themselves and their practice. If you offer benefits to your employees, these waivers may make it possible to offer better coverage and still afford the cost. They may also allow you to get group PPO coverage just for yourself and your family.

With these special options:

  • Practice owners can upgrade their personal coverage to a PPO plan while offering their employees another plan.
  • Practice owners with staff on their own health coverage (a spouse’s plan or another provider), can get group coverage at group rates – just for themselves and their family.
  • Practice owners no longer must meet the contribution and participation requirements to qualify for group coverage during this limited enrollment period.

There are also special options for independent physicians who do not have employees or who work with their spouse and need to secure health insurance.

  • Physicians in a partnership without W-2 employees may be eligible for group PPO health insurance. Partnership documentation and the company’s SS4 or Schedule K-1 (Form 1065) are required.
  • Physicians who own a business with their spouse or own a business and employ their spouse as a W-2 wage employee may qualify for group coverage, even without partnership documentation.

Managing costs and navigating coverage plans is no easy task. It’s why TMA Insurance Trust is committed to informing all Texas physicians about options like these to help you control the cost of your health insurance and give you the opportunity for better coverage.
