Don't Let An Injury Injure Your Practice

As a physician, you have invested much time, effort, and expense in growing your independent practice. At a moment's notice, an injury or unexpected illness can have devastating effects on what you have painstakingly built up. Now is the time to help protect your practice from financial injury. Business Overhead Expense Insurance (BOE) is disability insurance designed to cover the expenses of your practice when you are unable to work due to a covered illness or injury.

As an independent practice owner, the inability to work due to an injury or illness can have disabling effects on your business. A personal disability insurance plan may help replace some of your income if you become too sick or injured to practice. However, your personal disability policy may not provide enough funds to pay for household expenses and pay for expenses associated with running a thriving practice.

To help you save your practice and help preserve your independence, TMA Insurance Trust has prepared a safety net, especially with you in mind.

How Business Overhead Expense Insurance Works

What happens to my practice if I can’t work due to illness or injury?

  • BOE insurance helps cover the expenses to keep your practice running and financially viable when you are too sick or injured to work.

What happens when the revenue stops because I am unable to treat patients?

  • The TMA member plan offers a benefit of up to $50,000/month to help cover the expenses of running an office.

What if I have a business partner?

  • Any TMA members who are partners in your practice should also apply for BOE coverage so the practice is more fully protected. Physicians with partners planning to retire or considering leaving the practice may need to secure Business Overhead Expense Insurance, because more of the financial responsibility of covering the practice’s expenses will fall on them. Business Overhead Expense Insurance will not only protect your practice but will also assist in maintaining your professional standing and business momentum in your community.

What else is covered by Business Overhead Expense Insurance?

  • Instead of having to draw from your personal savings or liquidate personal resources to cover monthly business expenses, BOE pays for expenses like rent, employee salaries, payroll taxes, utilities, office supplies and equipment, depreciation of equipment, maintenance services, loan payments, property taxes, even the cost of a locum tenens to treat your patients and more.
