When Is It Time to Call a Health Insurance Specialist?

It’s Health Insurance Open Enrollment – and time is running out to make health insurance decisions. But this could also be a hectic time for your practice. And the last thing you probably want to do is sort through plans, rates and the complexities of today’s health insurance market.

This is when you can – and should – reach out to a group health insurance specialist.

Let Us Do The Legwork

TMA Insurance Trust advisors are group health insurance specialists. Their primary focus is helping independent practices get group health insurance that works for them.

During Open Enrollment they can be valuable partners who can help you navigate today’s complex, changing health insurance landscape.

Our advisors will research health insurance plans, carriers and rates – so you don’t have to.

We will investigate more than just premium rates. We will review networks, deductibles, co-pays, co-insurance, prescription drug coverage and other important details that you need to be aware of.

Get a Second Opinion

If you are already stretched thin, it may seem easier to avoid the hassle of shopping for a new plan and simply staying with your current plan.

If your current plan is right for you we will let you know. Getting a “second opinion” about your health insurance can confirm that you have chosen the best plan for yourself or your practice. Our advisors do not work for sales-based commissions so our recommendations will always be for your best interests – with no pressure or obligation.

On the other hand, with their deep industry knowledge our advisors may be able to find ways to help you get coverage you may not have thought was available to you. For some small practices that could include PPO health insurance.

Get a PPO Plan For a “Group of One”

During Open Enrollment there is an opportunity for a small practice to get PPO health insurance for as little as one employee. That means you could get a PPO plan for just yourself and your family.

In order to qualify, you must own a medical practice with a tax ID number and have at least one full-time employee other than yourself. Your employees must be offered coverage, but your practice does not need to contribute to their premiums. If you meet these requirements, you may qualify as a "group of one."

This may also be the case for partners and LLC owners filing as a partnership with no employees. To qualify, you will need to provide partnership documentation or your company’s Schedule K-1 (Form 1065.)

Our advisors are dedicated to helping you find the right plan at a cost that meets your budget.

Give Your Employees More Options

We’ve also informed some of our clients about certain waivers that are available only during Open Enrollment. These could allow you to contribute what you can afford toward employee premiums.

Practices with smaller budgets can use the waivers to help offset the cost of offering group coverage to their employees. By sharing costs with staff members a practice may be able to offer their employees better coverage – at a lower cost – than if they purchased their own individual plan.

Don’t Underestimate The Value of Service

Once you choose a plan, we will continue to provide service and support for your group benefits program. We can help save you time by taking on many administrative tasks that come with maintaining and servicing a group health benefits program.

The less time you spend on health insurance administration the more time you can devote to what really matters – which is caring for your patients and running your practice.

Call While There’s Time

We know how important it is for your practice to choose the right health insurance. Working with a health insurance specialist can make the process easier – and you could end up getting the health insurance you want at a cost you can afford.

Contact us now – before Open Enrollment ends – so that our health insurance specialists can help you and your staff enroll in a plan and have their ID cards ready for appointments and medication refills at the start of the new year.
