During these tumultuous days of COVID-19 it practically goes without saying that health insurance protection is essential to every Texas physician.

So we want you to know that TMA Insurance Trust is here to provide support for all your health insurance needs – whether you need to find a new group plan for your practice, make changes to your individual policy, or sort through your many Medicare options.

And now that Open Enrollment is almost here, they can help you take advantage of special opportunities that may provide you with more affordable health insurance options.

Group Health Insurance For Practice Owners

If you have recently re-opened your practice since the pandemic lockdown, health insurance is likely to be a top priority – for you and your staff. If you had to cut benefits while your office was closed, you may need to re-enroll employees or possibly secure a new group plan.

We can provide you with options for the best possible coverage at a cost that works for your budget. As Open Enrollment is coming soon, you should know there are special waivers available that may help you better manage costs for your 2021 group coverage.*

If you are preparing to open a practice for the first time, we can help you start your own group plan. This may actually be a good time, since the money-saving waivers can be helpful when you need to manage your financial resources with extra care.

As a practice owner, you’ll appreciate the hands-on service provided by TMA Insurance Trust. Our advisors will work with your practice to:

  • Enroll your staff and your family members
  • Ensure your staff receives insurance cards and important information
  • Help your practice manager make changes throughout the year
  • Advocate on your behalf with insurance companies

This kind of personalized service is rare in our industry today and it is always offered to you at no extra cost.

Individual and Family Health Insurance

Open Enrollment for Individual Health plans runs November 1 – December 15. If you enroll during that time, you can secure coverage for a 1/1/21 effective date regardless of your health status or current insurance status. Outside of this time period you can only enroll if you qualify for a special enrollment period due to one of the circumstances outlined below.

Some life-altering events happen to us unexpectedly – like the loss of work due to the pandemic. At other times, they can be planned for – such as a marriage, or the birth of a child.

In either case, there is a 60-day special enrollment period that allows you to make changes to your health insurance coverage under the Affordable Care Act. So, for example, you would qualify to add a family member to your policy if, during the year, you:

  • Got married
  • Had a child
  • Adopted a child
  • Became a foster parent
  • Became responsible for child support

Alternatively, you can obtain new coverage during the special enrollment period if you lost your health coverage due to the following circumstances:

  • Divorce
  • Loss of dependent status
  • Moving out of state
  • Loss of employer coverage

If you need to make a change to your individual health insurance plan – or find new coverage – you can do so anytime throughout the year, provided you meet the criteria of the special enrollment period.

Medicare Can be Complicated – We Can Help

Medicare health and drug plans can make changes every year. Navigating the complex Medicare landscape is much easier and less stressful with a knowledgeable guide by your side.

Whether you are considering Medicare options for the first time or you are already enrolled in Medicare, we can provide guidance and support.

If you are close to age 65 – or over 65 and planning to retire soon:

You probably know that Medicare does not pay for 20% of your medical bills – nor does it pay for most prescription medicines. However, there are Medicare Supplement and Medicare Part D Prescription Drug Plans designed to cover expenses traditional Medicare does not pay for.

Our advisors can help you understand how different Medicare Supplement plans could work for you to fill in coverage gaps left by traditional Medicare. For Medicare Part D, they will collect your necessary information to determine which carriers will cover your current prescriptions and what they will pay for your drugs so you can make your most informed decision.

If you are already enrolled in Medicare:

Medicare Open Enrollment is from October 15 to December 7. That’s when you can change Medicare health plans and prescription drug coverage for the following year.

Our advisors can go over your options to help you decide whether to keep or change your prescription drug plan. They will review costs, coverage, and which providers and pharmacies are included in the various Medicare Part D networks.
