Long-Term Disability Insurance: Top 8 Reasons To Take A Closer Look

As a physician, you recognize the importance of protecting your income and securing financial stability for yourself and your loved ones. Disability insurance is a crucial part of this protection. By being a TMA member, you gain the opportunity to help safeguard your income with a benefit of up to $4,000/month without the need for income verification. However, with full underwriting, members can get up to $15,000/month. These benefits are paid regardless of any other coverage you may have.

We understand that the traditional application process and high costs can be daunting. That's where our simplified process for the TMA Member Long Term Disability Insurance plan, offered by The Prudential Insurance Company of America, comes in. We invite you to explore the top eight advantages of the TMA Member Long Term Disability Insurance plan. Discover how it can offer you added peace of mind.

1. Simplified underwriting compared to an individual plan. Unlike some individual plans that require extensive underwriting, often taking many months to acquire, our plan offers a seamless process. One of the key benefits of the TMA Member Long Term Disability Insurance plan is the ease and speed of obtaining coverage. This means you can have added peace of mind knowing that you are protected without the hassle of a lengthy application process.

2. When compared to an individual policy, the TMA member premium rates are significantly lower. Cost is often a concern when it comes to disability insurance. Our plan not only provides savings throughout your career but also makes it more affordable to help protect yourself and your family.

3. Women physicians can take advantage of our unisex rates that offer savings of up to 40% - 50% when compared to rates for individual disability plans¹. Women typically pay higher rates for disability insurance than men primarily due to complications during pregnancy². Not so with our member plan. This ensures that regardless of your gender, you can access affordable and comprehensive coverage.

4. The TMA member plan is “own occupation” coverage that will pay benefits up to your Social Security retirement age. This means that if you are unable to perform the duties of your specific medical specialty, you can receive benefits. This coverage extends up to your Social Security retirement age, providing long-term insurance protection for your income.

5. Members can apply for a benefit of up to $4,000/month without income verification. Benefits of up to $10,000/month are available with simplified underwriting. This benefit is paid regardless of any other insurance coverage you may have.

6. We offer a 30-day waiting period. Compared to the 90 days or more often required by other disability policies, the TMA Member Long Term Disability Insurance plan offers a 30-day waiting period option. This means you can receive benefits when you need them most, helping to ensure financial stability during challenging times.

7. Members under age 40 qualify for special benefits. As a member under age 40, you can also benefit from the Student Loan Reimbursement benefit, which pays an additional 25% of your monthly benefit amount - up to $250,000 - to help pay off outstanding education loans, at no additional cost to you.

8. Members receive a 25% Thank You Credit³. To show appreciation for the care you provide to the people of Texas, the TMA Insurance Trust offers a 25% Thank You Credit on your bill. This credit essentially covers 25% of your monthly premium and could save you thousands of dollars over the course of your career.
