Short Term Disability: A Smart Addition to Your Income Protection

Life doesn’t always go according to schedule. An illness, injury—or even a healthy pregnancy—can suddenly pause your ability to practice. And when that happens, your income could take a hit unless you’ve planned ahead.

It’s tempting to put off thinking about those “what if” scenarios. But having a solid plan in place means you won’t have to scramble later. That’s exactly what the TMA Member Short Term Disability Insurance plan, issued by The Prudential Insurance Company of America, is here for—reliable protection when you need it most.

Coverage for Every Career Stage

Whether you’re just starting out or already deep into your career, short term disability insurance can offer a financial safety net when life hits pause. It’s a simple but significant way to help protect your income. Even if you already have some coverage through your employer, it may not go far enough—and sick leave rarely does.

Here’s what the TMA Member Short Term Disability Insurance plan offers:

  • Guaranteed acceptance for TMA members under age 55 for a cash benefit of up to $6,000/month, and monthly benefits of $10,000 are available with underwriting.*
  • Easy enrollment process.
  • Quick benefits – benefits start first day for accidents and after 7 days for illnesses.
  • Pregnancy coverage includes 2 weeks prepartum and 6 weeks postpartum (8 weeks for c-section).
  • Benefits are paid regardless of any other insurance you may have, for up to 13 weeks.
  • Tax-free benefits are paid directly to you, helping to save more of your income.
  • Affordable, gender-neutral rates for male and female members.
  • Expert guidance – our TMAIT advisors are just a call away and ready to help – no pressure, just honest guidance.

This plan is designed to help fill in the gaps and ease the financial pressure during recovery or maternity leave. It can also help with the extras—like hiring help for child care, school pickups, meal prep, or other responsibilities you may need support with while you’re healing.
