It’s Open Enrollment. At this time you may be able to find health insurance that works better for you than the coverage you have now. In fact, there are special group health insurance options that may let you qualify for a group health plan – even if you have no employees.
See Options For Group PPO and HMO Plans
As an independent physician, you may not be aware of this, but through our research we’ve found certain health insurance options that may make it possible for you to qualify for group health insurance. Why is that important?
It may mean you could be eligible for more comprehensive group PPO coverage. Or, you may be able to get a group HMO plan that costs less than an individual HMO plan – with comparable benefits. Here are some key points regarding the options:
- Physicians in a partnership without W-2 employees may be eligible for group PPO health insurance. Partnership documentation and your company’s SS4 or Schedule K-1 (Form 1065) are required.
- Physicians who own a business with their spouse or own a business and employ their spouse as a W-2 wage employee may qualify for group coverage, even without partnership documentation.
- Practice owners with staff on their own health coverage (a spouse’s plan or that of another provider) can get “Group of One” PPO coverage just for themselves and their family.
