Open Enrollment – Your Chance To Get a PPO Health Insurance Plan

Many small practice owners we know are surprised when they learn that it could be possible for them to get PPO health insurance for themselves and their family.

That’s because individual PPO health insurance plans are no longer available in Texas.

But every year, there is a window of opportunity where small practice owners may be able to qualify for group PPO health insurance for themselves, their family and/or their practice. Here’s how it works:

Waivers Make It Possible

During Open Enrollment – from now through December 15, 2019 – there are waivers to certain group health insurance requirements.

With these waivers, you would not have to pay 50% of your employees’ premiums and you would not need 75% of your employees to participate in a group plan – as is typically required.

The waivers could allow you to bypass those contribution and participation requirements – so you could enroll in a PPO plan with as little as one person. If you or your family enroll in a plan you would need to offer health insurance to your employees, but your practice will not have to contribute toward their premiums.

If no employees choose to take the coverage, you can still enroll in the group PPO plan. To be eligible, you must have a tax I.D. number and one full-time employee paid under that number.

You Have The Freedom To Choose

The waivers can give you the freedom to decide how you manage health insurance options for yourself, your family and your employees. You could choose a cost-effective group HMO plan. And you could also select a group PPO plan – with a larger network of physicians and hospitals, fewer restrictions, and more comprehensive benefits than an HMO plan.
