At TMA Insurance Trust, we do not yet know the full scope of the rate increases for 2023 health insurance premiums, but we anticipate that they could be significant. While we can’t prevent that, we can tell you that you have an opportunity to lock in a lower 2022 rate for the next 12 months. If you currently have an individual HMO health insurance plan, there are special options available that could help you qualify for group health insurance and take advantage of this as well.
Make Plans to Save
If you’re an independent physician or practice owner interested in securing better health insurance coverage, now is the time to do so. Before Open Enrollment begins on November 1st for individual health plans, you have an opportunity to get more comprehensive group PPO coverage at lower 2022 rates for the majority of 2023.
Group PPO health insurance may be an option for you if:
- you’re a practice owner looking to secure group coverage for yourself and your employees
- you own a business with your spouse, or own a business and employ your spouse as a W-2 wage employee. We may be able to qualify your business for group coverage even without partnership documentation.
- you’re a physician in a partnership without any W-2 employees. You may be eligible, partnership documentation and the company’s SS4 or Schedule K-1 (Form 1065) are required.
- you’re a practice owner with staff on their own health coverage (spouse’s plan or another provider). You can get “group of one” PPO coverage just for yourself and your family, and it may cost less than an individual HMO plan.
TMA Insurance Trust works hard to inform independent physicians about opportunities like this to get preferred coverage. Before you renew a current, individual health insurance plan during Open Enrollment beginning on November 1st, or you renew your group plan - consult with your TMA Insurance Trust advisor to see if available special options can help you make the switch to group PPO coverage.
We also look for ways to provide support if your health insurance needs change during the year. Some changes you may initiate, some may be unexpected. We’re here to make sure you’re covered no matter what.
Changing Needs, Constant Support
Has your life changed in the last year? Life-altering events can affect your health insurance coverage.
Did you:
- get married?
- have or adopt a child?
- become a foster parent?
You may now need to add family members to your plan or acquire a more comprehensive plan. If you do, you may qualify for a special enrollment period. Additionally, if you lose your current health coverage during the year due to divorce, moving into the state (TX), or change of job/loss of employer coverage, you can obtain coverage during a special enrollment period
When you experience a momentous change in your life, whether it’s expected or surprising, let’s make sure that your insurance coverage is constant and that you have the best plan for your current needs.
