Open Enrollment will be over soon. But there’s still time to take advantage of opportunities to get a higher quality insurance plan potentially at a lower cost than what you may be paying now.
One such opportunity may appeal to solo and small practice owners who want the greater freedom and choice of a PPO health insurance plan.
PPO Coverage For Solo and Small Practice Owners
If you’ve been exploring your options, you may already know that individual PPO plans are no longer available in Texas. But under certain situations it may possible for you as a solo or small practice owner to qualify for a PPO plan as a “Group of One” – even if it’s just for yourself and your family.
To qualify you would need to have a tax ID number and one employee besides yourself paid under that number. And you’ll need to offer the coverage to them, though you’ll still be eligible if they choose not to take it.
Partnerships and LLC’s filing as a partnership with no employees may be eligible too. If you and your spouse have an LLC or establish an LLC, you may also be eligible for this coverage. You’ll just need partnership documentation and the company’s Schedule K-1 (Form 1065).
Offer Group Health Insurance – and Control Costs
Our advisors can let you know if you qualify for the “Group of One” option. They can also tell you about another option for practice owners who want to offer group health coverage to their employees – and still control costs to the practice.
But whether you want PPO coverage for yourself and family – or want to offer coverage to your employees – you should know that you must submit your completed paperwork by December 15th.
