A Note from a TMA Insurance Trust Advisor
Lately, I’ve noticed a recurring theme in my conversations with physicians who call TMA Insurance Trust about life insurance.* Many begin their search online, drawn to sites promising coverage in minutes with no medical exam. The appeal is understandable. It’s quick. It’s digital. It feels simple.
But here’s what often happens next.
After answering a few health questions — or requesting the higher coverage amounts many physicians need — they learn instant approval isn’t available after all. Simplified underwriting may give way to a more detailed review, sometimes including a medical exam and blood test. Others continue through the process only to discover the final rate is higher than initially suggested.
That’s often the moment many pause and decide they’d rather speak with someone directly about their options. Someone they can trust.

I sometimes explain it this way: in medicine, a quick screening tool can be useful, but it isn’t a substitute for a thorough evaluation grounded in history and clinical judgment. Life insurance works similarly. “No exam” does not mean no underwriting.
Even when a physical exam isn’t required, insurers still assess risk. They may review medical and prescription histories, motor vehicle records, and other available data sources. The process may feel faster, but the evaluation is still taking place.
For many physicians when they work with one of our advisors, traditional underwriting can ultimately result in lower premiums and access to higher coverage limits.
At TMA Insurance Trust, we believe physicians should be served — not sold. That means taking the time to understand your goals. We walk through how the different life insurance plans work and help you evaluate which strategies and product options will best fit your needs. When you’re putting life insurance in place for your family, it’s worth taking the time to get it right.
Your Term Life Insurance Options
With TMA Insurance Trust, physicians have access to both Annual Renewable Term Life and Level Term Life.
Having more than one term life plan option allows our advisors to help physicians think thoughtfully and strategically about how life insurance fits into different stages of their careers and family responsibilities. Some value flexibility earlier in their careers, while others prefer coverage designed for longer-term planning. Term life options are also available for physicians into their 70s (with underwriting).
